IMPHAL, Oct 12
The proscribed Socialist Revolutionary Party (SOREPA), Kangleipak has called a 12-hour general strike on October 15 from 5 am to 5 pm.
The general strike, however, will not cover move- ment relating to fire, electricity, medical, religious ceremonies and media, said a statement issued by SOREPA publicity secretary MC Yaiphabi.
The outfit said that they support all general strikes, boycotts etc called on October 15 by other revolution- ary groups of WESEA against the alleged forcible merger of Kangleipak with India in 1949.
SOREPA claimed that the sovereign power of the erstwhile kingdom Kangleipak was snatched by India after King Bodhchandra was forced to sign the controversial merger agreement at gun-point on October 15, 1949 at Shillong.
The outfit further claimed that King Bodhchandra was surrounded by Indian armed forces for several days and confined at his residence at Shillong until the signing of the merger agreement.
Recently, everybody saw a group of people allegedly brought in India from outside Manipur openly suppor- ting AFSPA. These mercenaries are being armed by India and they have been killing innocent people.
The outfit said that these mercenaries are even mobilising people to demand enforcement of AFSPA for a much longer period.
The combined force of Indian armed forces and these mercenaries are on mission to disintegrate Manipur/Kangleipak and erase its history, it alleged.
Chin-Kuki mercenaries support oppression of innocent people by armed forces under the impunity guaranteed by AFSPA, it said.
Accusing the Indian Government of spreading false narrative to justify the forcible merger of Kangleipak (Manipur), SOREPA said that a collective effort is needed to protect the land and resources of Kangleipak and her people.
The outfit also said chronic problems besieging Manipur would be resolved when the lost sovereignty of the land is restored.
